It’s designed with the idea of creating stereo synth voices, the fact that it’s really handy for laser and oscilloscope stuff is a secondary but still quite useful function. But then again it’s modular so people are welcome to use it in whatever way they see fit, there’s no rules. :slight_smile:

The XOH? It’s a two channel stereo mixer and headphone amp, Vertex is a stereo VCA with the ability to skew the stereo image to the left or right. Two quite different things. The XOH might be a nice way to mix together the outputs from a pair of Vertexes though, although I’ve been enjoying running it into a pair of SoundStage inputs.

X Pan is a mixer with two mono crossfaders into panners, as well as a basic stereo VCA. Vertex is a fully featured stereo VCA which allows manipulation of the stereo field of a stereo signal. The two modules have different focuses but would probably complement each other nicely.

QPAS killer? No, this is totally different. In fact, the two together would be a fun and powerful combo. Self-oscillating Parallax into QPAS and running a bunch of modulation into both (interrelated outputs from Vector Space, perhaps) would easily yield a lot of interesting results.

It isn’t panning per se, it’s more like balance, but filtering. It’s not designed to pan a mono signal in the stereo field, it’s for filtering a stereo signal with more control of the stereoness, if that makes sense.

When you patch a mono signal into the L input so it goes to both sides you don’t get a sense of it panning around the stereo field, you get a left signal and a right signal and the controls effect how they’re filtered relative to one another.

Regarding how it compares to the QPAS, it’s quite different but has some similarities. This is more like a “normal” filter but with stereo control.

Don’t mean to go on about the new modules too much but there are finally some good quality stereo demos up on youtube courtesy of #superbooth20homeedition

It probably doesn’t need to be said here, but highly recommend listening with headphones on nice monitors, the stereo width and low end aren’t really compatible with small speakers

is the soundstage suitable as a final output / input for line level devices or should it be attenuated?

You can use SoundStage to output to a line level input like a sound card or mixer without attenuation, just back off the Output Level control appropriately.

Regarding running line level sources through SoundStage, if you run line level in you get line level out, but obviously if you input a mixture of line and modular level sources in you’ll have to attenuate the modular level sources to have them at the same level as the line level sources.
