Just grabbed LumaFX (little sister to LumaFusion), it doesn’t do normalizing but gaining (AFAICT)…

I guess I’m gonna stick with Filmic Pro for recording and my normalization script on the desktop, let’s see how this pairs with my patience :slight_smile:

Setting a random LFO to the transpose (and also lo-fi/overdrive) parameters is an easy way to get even more out of the sounds, especially with the LFO synced to the beat. I use apeMatrix for the task, but Mozaic and/or Rozeta work also.

Cool. Good tip. I usually just export from the iPad and mangle them further in Ableton, but that sounds like a good approach as well! :slight_smile:

I thought I’d show you guys a synth my friend made for IOS: Synth by Wärn.

It’s a pretty simple app, but really fun to use imo.
Another friend of mine is a music teacher, he’s used the app with kids to experiment and have fun with the music and kinda get away from pretentions.

Here’s an example of it being used (IN A SILO)!

Any user recommendations for the new iPad Air so far?

I still have the very first iPad generation ever, and the first generation iPad Air. I also recently got my late mother’s iPad Air 2, but it only has 16 gigabytes and is incredibly limited as to what I can install on it.

I’ve been hearing good things about the new Air, so curious to hear what my Lines comrades have to say so far…

Better value than the current Pro. The obvious challenge (for both Pro and Air) is the missing audio (headphones) jack. New Pro models will show up sooner or later, although they seem unlikely to regain audio jacks.

I am intrigued by this Kensington dock that might suspend an Air or Pro at a useful angle amidst my gear, keeping a small footprint, while significantly addressing connectivity problems. It’s an unreleased product, though, and questions remain.

Thanks! I noted your post about the stand a while back, it’s interesting. My plan is to get a MOTU M-4, which is a great price for what you get.

At this point, I’m on a bit of a spending freeze for a while, so I will have some time to figure out my priorities.

So this wild new Kensington StudioDock thing is now available for pre-order at around $400, shipping in March-ish. For some reason, there are two slightly different models for the 12.9- and 11-inch iPads. That’s disappointing. Two other caveats: (1) we don’t really have any reviews yet, particularly with music gear, and (2) new iPad Pros probably aren’t that far off, and new models could mean new compatibility problems. The idea of something that can suspend your iPad above your rig in portrait or landscape while supplying lots of connectivity is appealing (to me), but it still feels like a lot could go wrong here.

I was just telling someone that my biggest problem with it is that it can do almost anything. It’s almost like what I need to do is build an instrument and commit to just using it and not keep refining the patch. That’s what’s so great about Borderlands for me. It does what it does so perfectly and the only thing that was missing in the update was great effects. Once I learned about AUM, I was 100% satisfied.

Hello there! Yes, I’ve bought it on launch. It’s awesome, sadly I don’t use the ipad for music making that often. Amazing elektron-inspired sequencer, great original modular system. The modular aspect of it is simpler than in Audulus, but a lot of fun nevertherless. They already have auv3 hosting, and multichannel audio i/o would come soon (which would allow for easier intergration with eurorack, without having to use aum)

These look pretty, and are clearly in the style of the pro display stands, but I’m really surprised they opted for a barrel jack for power instead of USB-C. And, no analog audio connectivity.

I’m stunned that it’s still nearly impossible to find a simple, cheap-but-good-enough 2/2 USB-C audio interface

It has a 1/8" headphone jack, which—in theory—is what’s missing from the iPad Pro/Air. In practice, TBD.

“simple”, “cheap”, and “good enough” are highly subjective, but there are options: TASCAM US-2x2HR ($149), PreSonus Studio 24c ($159), MOTU M2 2x2 ($179), PreSonus ioStation 24c ($270), Apollo Solo ($500), etc.

I mean like dongle-sized, mostly because I’m still upset that the Air and Pro don’t have headphone jacks. Trading the headphone jack for a dongle is a win if there’s stereo input, and a horrible loss in any other circumstance. Anything that’s an actual pro(sumer) sound card is way more expensive and way larger than a hack to bring back the headphone jack.

For iOS?? Obviously a different price category completely, but this would be a phenomenal development

Basically, I want to find something like the Griffin iMic. It’s relatively easy to find things like this, but every single one that I’ve found which clarifies the audio inputs is mono in, stereo out.

Interesting, that was exactly my impression of it. I’ve been pretty focused on the elektron boxes I picked up so I was wondering if it moved the needle for picking up the iPad again. I’ll stick with Audulus a while longer, since it still does all the stuff I like.

Also I’m getting a new mac mini, and I wonder how many of the apps I have will work (as in be enjoyable) on in the Mac OS environment.

To be fair, Apple’s own USB-C headphone adaptor is supposedly one of the best portable USB-C DACs, especially given the incredibly low price tag. But I very rarely wear wired headphones anymore, anyways - those are almost exclusively for audio production and synth playing at this point.
