Just a heads up:

Korg has made ikaossilator free and Moog has made the astoundingly good Model D free too! If you don’t have them, fill your (i)boots!

Both say “in app purchases” — is there extra purchase options you think are necessary for functionality etc?

I’ve not used ikaossilator yet so couldn’t comment on that but absolutely not for Model D. It’s amazing

Also Patterning 2 is down in price to the cheapest I’ve ever seen it right now (for anyone who doesn’t have it, it’s truly incredible)

For Model D the IAPs are preset packs, no added functionality AFAIK

Hmmm. I wonder if this means we have a patterning 3 coming soon.

I think it’s more related to making things more affordable for those who are locked down, but could be mistaken. I can’t actually think of anything I’d like to see added in a version. 3, that one already blows my mind!

As a side note, Samplr is half price at present (presumably for the same reason as Patterning 2).

Yes. Of course. But I can think of about a dozen improvements I’d like to see in a patterning 3.

Anyhow, thanks for the heads up. Enjoying the moog, maybe the nicest iOS bass synth I’ve tried.

good lookin’ out.
what do you think patterning could add to 3?

Well. Since you asked:

  • Allowing two samples per channel, layered, or spliced.
  • Allowing a sample to be played backwards, or multiple parts within the same sample with ability to adjust within a beat eg first snare hits forwards second hits backwards
  • Ability to alter play button to be a restart rather than a start/stop
  • Freeze/hold/ manual play option
  • Proper file menu with dates and can be organized by date or name. Basic file management functionality
  • Undo!
  • keyboard option for notes
  • effects available on individual outs when sending inter app audio
  • count in
  • multiple projects open and switchable
  • linking channels - volume, mute, solo, sends
  • automation!
  • distortion send by channel

Of course, there are some on this list that can be accomplished in different ways, but native to Patterning would really make it extra special. It’s already pretty damn special as far as I’m concerned.

No idea if this is of interest, but I’ve been working with AUM file players to createive performances by triggering loops. Ideally I’d like to develop this idea for full live sets and there’s no reason I couldn’t but this one was just an exercise in doing a live mixdown of a track I made in BM3.

A few people have said that a breakdown of it would be of interest so I’ll do that this week (potentially today, time permitting).

The follow up to the previous video is now up, which goes into detail about the process behind that live performance.

Hope it’s of some use/interest to somebody.

I was wondering … is there a “live-coding” app for the iPad that generates audio and/or MIDI?

Something like “Teletype on iPad”?

Not live coding exactly, but a very convenient way to script a midi plugin.

Many scripts available at https://patchstorage.com/platform/mozaic/

Maybe Kymatica Bitwiz?

So, I’m now ‘all in’ with my iPad for travel and music.
I’d like to find a portable interface to get audio in and out. To get audio from, say Double Knot, to Borderlands…
I can do this at home with Expert Sleepers, but that’s no portable.
One caveat. I want to wear bluetooth headphones the whole time (that’s another thread) so audio in setting would be interface, out setting would be bluetooth. Not sure if that’s restricted by hardware…

iOS can use one and only one audio interface at a time. So your external audio interface needs to support Bluetooth audio if you expect to use Bluetooth headphones and an external audio interface at the same time.

iOS has no notion of aggregate device or loopback/soundflower/Blackhole/jack type of routing. Can’t be done.

quick note here - the current version of borderlands has broken bluetooth support, but it’s now fixed and about to be deployed. just have to find time to ship it off to apple this week.

Ah, that’s why I have had to monitor through AUM.
