Ah, that’s absolutely fantastic news, Tony - it means a load that the videos are proving to be useful!

Can anyone recommend something that’s good for cutting up samples from longer audio files? I’ve tried to use AudioShare (too hard to zoom) and Hokusai (hard to export, felt awkward in general) with no luck.

Audacity is great for stuff like that. If you have a Norns you could probably use Sam to do it.

EDIT: Haha sorry forgot which thread I was in. For iOS chopping, I use audio share and it works fine for me. If you hold the start point rule still for a second it zooms in automatically for you.

On iOS, I process and chop recordings in Auria. Good interface. Good visibility and tools. Pretty good file save situation.

with the caveat that i haven’t used it in forever, ferrite is a multitrack editor targeted toward podcasters that’s pretty good for this and free (some stuff requires an in app purchase but i’m not actually sure what it is, don’t have it).

ReSlice then use the ‘export as zipped wav files’ option.

What generative music apps do you all use on ios?

I know about Xynthesizr, Cality and Rozetta. Which other ones are good?

I use Noatikl 3 (now only available as Wotja), and Autony (from Cality’s developer!). I love them for opposite reasons, Noatikl’s depth and Autony’s simplicity.

In addition to ones already named I use Polyphase and Senode a lot. Both are great.

Is there a limitation on the length of the sample koala can load? Can it load samples from the cloud ? Thanks

I’ve yet to discover a limit and I’ve recorded several minutes worth of sound in when playing about with inter-app resampling. Basically I load all samples through AudioShare so anything that AudioShare can shake hands with, Koala can too. I used Dropbox for cloud storage and it works perfectly with that, but it might support other options too.

Polyphase is very good.

I wrote a Turing Machine script for Mozaic, which has a lot of generative music potential:

Look at the other Mozaic scripts too, lots of great things in there

Question for those who use both phone and pad: re universal apps, is it easy to share projects/patches and the like? For example if i get something going on the phone then want to do more with it on the pad, how is it xfering to the pad? Thanks in advance.

this is a bad answer but audioshare not syncing between devices at all is never not frustrating for me. i want to record into my ipad at night and listen back the next morning on the way to work to see if anything was good, but i never remember to move the files.

the combination of that and the UI really make me wish there was something else, but it seems like it’s too deeply integrated into everything to displace…

This is lovely and brilliant and now I have to buy Mozaic after previously thinking that I didn’t need it!

Despite splitting my time almost completely between iPhone and iPad I’ve never actually attempted to share files between the 2, but will look into it over the next couple of days and probably do a video if that would be of help/interest

I just bought Mozaic because of this! How do I load it?

Thanks!

Airdrop is a very handy way to share files between iOS devices. It’s a direct LAN transfer, so speed is only limited by the speed of your local network.

@eblomquist

Check out this post on the audiobus forums, it’s a good overview. Basically you download a patch from patchstorage (from your ipad), then open it in mozaic, then you can open that patch as a preset from within AUM or another AU host.
