MY current ‘live’ (I’ve still not actually played live anywhere with it but lots of practice) uses both iPad and modular

I find I like both at different times - iOS is kind of quick to get going with - there are certainly times my patching is a bit ‘obvious’ but other times great to have wires and knobs and to be able to mess about with it. If I’m really in the right place I will build up and tear down patches while I’m playing. (this isn’t my whole modular BTW- I deliberately made a smaller subset for live work)

I think though looking at my setup - what I like is having all the options - the ability to mix and match keeps things fresher. I can make a piece based around iOs and I can switch over to the modular and do something there and then move to the Norns or whatever.

three new synths released by korg

This isn’t iOS specifically, but seems relevant. Samples from Mars is having a pretty hefty sale, 89% off many products including the everything package where you get all their stuff for $149

Their samples are all 24bit and the kits are all for non-mobile apps, but it’s a massive injection of sounds for the cost.

These new synths sound great. I was thinking about getting the program for my iPad, with these sounds being a specific draw. Only issue is, I can’t find what they want to charge for the add-ons anywhere. Do you have the app? Mind telling me what all of these retro game synth’s cost?

hi yes, they are 10,99 euro now (which is 50% off the normal price). Usd is probably the same.

they already had the ‘Kamata’ synth for sale in the app as well, which is a wave table synthesizer, emulation of the ‘namco custom30’ found in their namco arcade games.

and a chiptune style synth called ‘Kingston’

That actually seems like a pretty sensible cost. Some of these certainly sound better than others. I just like writing and composing little melodies and clips on my phone using some goofy programs and this seems up my alley. You use it Korg Gadget and maybe even one or two of the advertised synths?

Yes, I’ve used Korg Gadget a lot. The optional synths I have are the korg odyssey, ms-20, polysix which are recreations of the classic korg analog synthesizers and two sampler gadgets called vancouver and bilbao.

Korg Gadget is easy to use for simpler music making, but you can also make full productions on it.

Very cool. You use mainly on iOS?

EDIT: Both deals are dead now.

FYI to all - Imaginando is having one-day sales on some of their iOS software.

  • Friday - K7D (tape delay emulation) $1
  • Saturday - DRC (super deep synth) $1

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for that. I, for one, would be happy if this thread let fellow iOS folks about particularly good app sales.

I made an album at the start of the year using basically nothing but Caustic and the Samples From Mars everything package that I bought over Christmas.

These samples are absolutely top drawer!

I should spend some time this afternoon going through the site and seeing what I might be interested in.

I’ve been using syntorial to try and learn better to generate my own sounds and move away from sampling, but a big ass batch of sample packs to throw in the Timber engine on my norns and blast through Orca is never a bad deal…

Got good suggestions of sample packs from these guys?

I got their New Year sale offer - plus I had a coupon too - so the whole collection was under $30! I’ve barely scratched the surface but absolutely love things like the SH101, the ARP 2600 and the Soviet Synths. The Essential Sounds collection is arguably the best place to start - obvious, but that’s what it’s for

Since I don’t have one I often use their Modular samples. The Voyetra is also good.

I got their everything sale awhile back too. Its all anyone ever really needs in samples.

Been digging into Mozaic, and while I’m not sure what I want to code with it yet, the growing library of presets is really incredible.

I just discovered the Use Motion Sensors preset; that’s what I’ve been waiting for!
It sends gyroscope info from to midi cc 13, 15 and 17.

I’m trying to send that midi data from AUM on my iPhone to AUM on my iPad via a Network Session or Bluetooth in AUM. It all looks good except my iPad and iPhone won’t connect via Bluetooth, and nothing seems to be connecting over Network Session.
Anyone else ever try using Network Session or Bluetooth with iPad and iPhone?

I think support for Bluetooth MIDI depends on the app you’re using and network MIDI seems to be a more widely supported option. Please correct me if I am misunderstanding something here. I’ve been playing around with the network MIDI recently with great success. Make sure you create a new session under the network section in the Audio MIDI Setup window on macOS and connect to the selected iPad on the same Wi-Fi network. Also check that the Network MIDI is selected as a device in the iOS app you’re using.

Thanks for the detailed instructions -I may try this with my Mac; but my original issue is connecting the iPhone to the iPad. AUM is not letting them connect via Bluetooth, and Network Session is also not producing results. I’m going to try with a different WiFi network and a different iPhone later; I’m guessing it might be prohibited unless I turn on data tethering from my phone to the iPad. That requires an additional charge from my service provider though so I’m trying to avoid it!

@sketcherazzi midimittr seems to do what you need.
