Both Audulus and Zmors Modular can convert midi from apps to cv/gate, and Zmors is easier to setup. However, you can’t use more than one app with one audio interface, so you’ll have to choose either midi to cv conversion or audio recording and fx.

Both Audulus and Zmors can work inside AUM or Audiobus, but they provide only two outputs in this mode, which is only one pair of cv/gate.

CVquencer is a very simple iOS app for sending CV and gate to a dc coupled audio interface, if Audulus seems too complex.

Ah ok, this is started to make. So here’s a theoretical setup I could have, am I understanding this correctly?

-ES-8 in the rack.
-iPad plugged into the ES-8 with Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter (power into wall from adaptor to power iPad)
-Audio sent from rack to ES-8, to iPad, through AUM to be processed, back out though AUM to ES-8 to be used in modular world again.
-Then Something like CVquencer sending CV-Gate info through ES-8 output to be used for sequencing in the modular? Perhaps using one of the softwares mentioned to convert midi output from a different app to cv/gate

What if I wanted to play something simple like using my Keystep to play a soft synth on the iPad? Does the ES-8 process control voltage in, to be used in an app?

I feel like this could get complicated very quickly, maybe I should just go with an class compliant external interface which is DC coupled and has traditional MIDI i/o.

Idk, maybe this is too much. Lol.

I recently recorded a session doing essentially what you’re after:

I’m using the ES-9, and use various midi sequencers in AUM routed through a very simple Audulus patch to convert to CV. Also taking audio from the Eurorack modules and adding AUv3 effects, then mixing and recording in AUM. It took me a while to figure out all the pieces, but it’s a pretty intuitive workflow for me now. Happy to answer any questions!

How do you setup Audulus to have more than two cv outputs?

Here’s the patch. I used two midi modules and directed them to the appropriate channels on the ES-9 interface.

If you open those midi modules, you can tap on the button labeled ‘omni’ to set the incoming midi channel.

Also, you’ll see that I’m taking the gate from one midi channel and converting it 24ppq, which I use to synchronize Pamela’s New Workout.

Huge thanks for sharing the patch, but I should’ve asked more precisely.
My problem and question is - how do you get both AUM and Audulus to work at the same time? I thought its either / or situation, and you can’t have both apps using one and the same audio interface. Do you just run them in parallel? Is it stable?

Oh yeah, that part. I run Audulus on its own, not as an IAA. That way you get access to all the interface’s channels, rather than just two.

Then in AUM’s midi routing, I send the sequencers to the Audulus virtual like this:

Make sure the different midi sequencers are set to different midi channels, then match them up in Audulus.

So Audulus converts midi data coming from those apps running on iOS into CV, then sends it out of the ES-9?

the longed-for Borderlands update came out!!

Edit: uups there‘s already a dedicated thread…🤦

Glorious news! Also I discovered that Spacecraft works fine on my old iPad 3rd Gen so I now have a fully dedicated granular device permanently connected to Ableton via MIDI (and an Alesis ioDock)

The other night I did this:

It sounds good to me on youtube, but not so good on soundcloud and I don’t know why.

I just sent the audio from the iPad straight thru my pedals and into ableton. In ableton sounds ok, youtube sounds ok but on soundcloud it’s all muffled…do you know why? (I’m not using AUM)

Which are the best apps you like to play with a MIDI keyboard on the iPad?

Oh yes! The Samplr iOS app has been updated!

I thought this app wasn’t being developed at all anymore!! This is great news!!

what do oyu use to video record you jams? are there any cheap solutions for iphone video recording (to get a decent audio)?

Fantastic news. The original royalty coming back to reclaim their thrones.

Maybe I missed this before but using in AUM, if the sample rates are mismatched, samples in Samplr are useless. Is there anyway around that?

I use my iPhone on a tripod for overhead shots of the iPad + hardware. Or just use the built in screen recorder (though I think people really like to see fingers tapping things). Since I use AUM for the audio, I record in that. Then I put it together on my Mac because I’m faster in Premier than any video editor for iOS.

Yes, that’s what those “1VPO Converter” modules are doing.
