iDensity is really nice for this. It’s primarily a multi-track granular looper/sampler, but I think you can configure it with some transport options to constant-record live input and treat it as more of a time-dependent effect. It’s also pretty full-featured in terms of support for modulation / MIDI / parameter control.

It can def do that. The really nice thing about iDensity is that you can setup a single stream as an AU unit.

Thanks for that, I really appreciate the insight. This is what I was concerned about, I have to admit. I was hoping to use Lemur with some of the custom layouts but TouchAble does look very, very impressive for Ableton.

It’s one of a number of devices that I own but really need to get my head around properly.

how I got real time playback was to record an automation session of the scrub near the right side. This is nice too cause then you can manually scrub all you want and it’ll snap back to real time playback.

Btw: praise for the iPad:

Could you say more about how to do that?
Thanks!

Ho guys how do I keep under control the DSP usage in AUM? Is there a way to improve the performance of my iPad or am I just loading too many synths in it?

The scrubber/grain sampler moves by default from left to right and the incoming recording comes in from the right. So to get “real time playback” the grain sampler needs to stay on the right side. The app offers recording of manual scrubbing to automate the movements. The idea then is to automation record the grain sampler, keeping it always on the right side, so that it samples immediately from the incoming audio.

I always bumble around automation recording but I’m sure it’s an easy thing with a manual read.

And there very well may be an easier way about real time playback with the same manual.

Hello, I am lucky to be able to test the coming in a few weeks midi to cv tool Covariant from the same developer as cvquencer. It’s auv3, outputs any midi to es-8, es-9, and the cool thing is it’s including a tuner for my oscillator so it stays in tune. Here I’m outputting sequence from steppolyarp unit to cv on es-9, as well as modulation to the filters, it also generates envelopes for filters. I tested it with Rosetta lfo, works great.
Just wanted to share, so much easier to output cvs from apps.

He’s still looking for beta testers on Audiobus forum

thanks, looking forward!

Thanks for sharing your setup! I have been trying to replicate it myself using an Fugue Machine, AUM, Audulus and an ES-8 but unfortunately haven’t gotten it working yet.

The issue appears to be that both AUM and Audulus are competing for ownership of the audio interface. I can set up my Audulus patch and confirm that the outputs are working but once I launch AUM to run Fugue Machine and provide MIDI input AUM appears to take ownership of the audio interface and the CV/gate outputs in Audulus immediately cease.

Is there a particular order of operations or an AUM setting that I need to remedy this? I’m new to iOS audio production and am pretty stumped at the moment

I’m not in a position to test right now, but try opening Audulus from inside AUM using the Inter-app audio menu

If you open Audulus as an IAA you’ll only have access to two output channels, unfortunately. You need to run the app on its own, along with AUM.

@patrickod you might check the Audulus setting for background audio. It’s under the little wrench icon on the file browsing screen. Make sure that’s on and you should be able to see all of your interface’s channels in both apps.

Might be easier to run fugue machine standalone?

This was indeed the last missing part of the puzzle. Thanks for the help!

Covariant is released now in App Store. Midi to cv Converter auv3. It calibrates you’re oscillator, generates cv/gates, any modulation cc, and can produce it’s own envelopes, supports sub busses(it requires dc coupled audio interface)
I want to make some tutorial when I have the time (I’m not the developer, I just like the app and have been waiting for something like this)
A tip, the manual opens when starting it standalone.

As a heavy ios user who also owns an O-Coast I feel like this would be very useful but don’t know exactly how! Tutorial would be great

You need some form of dc coupled interface. I hope the developer makes some good tutorials, I will try, but I have limited time. I’ve been waiting for this, it’s a great way to get cv directly from AUM.

Sounds like the MOTU M4 would be great for this

I know some of the MOTU, and expert sleepers work. I use expert sleepers es-9 as my only soundcard, it’s amazing if you’re using modular.
