Patterning was released yesterday for iPhone - finally getting to check what all the talk is about

does anyone have a good workflow for patterning + other aum things? i love the UI but always want an bit more “saturation” from the kit, but using the master distortion in the app or rough rider etc in aum stereo bus always add too much in the highs before the lows and mids are satisfying to me. maybe i need to make a template with all the separate outputs set up but whenever i try that it feels buggy. i’m on patterning 1 and an ipad that is 3 or 4 years old at this point so maybe it’s just a memory issue.

If I’m using Patterning in AUM on the older of my iPads I tend to render out loops and use them in the file player, meaning that I don’t need to keep Patterning open. Then I’ll run them through KlevGR Degrader, DAW Cassette or (free) Cassette Tape maybe. Pair with an EQ or filter to suit, maybe?

You might enjoy FAC Bandit. I wish the effects could be any AUv3 but the built in effects are pretty great. You can apply them to specific frequency bands.

Had no idea this was available on iOS. Thank you!

My pleasure! It’s one of my go-to effects (on merit not price, obviously!)

There’s master eq and the saturation is very tweakable. Or maybe this a patterning v. Patterning 2 thing?

I could use some advice: I have just drop my Ipad PRO 12.9" (1st GEN) on the floor and the glass screen is all cracked.I have called a few places around where I live and they quoted me anything between $275 to $350 to repair it.
I have quite a few music app installed (Borderlands TOUCH-OSC and SMPLR being three of them) that I really like using and I am thinking what are my best options. Was considering replacing the glass by myself, but I feel a little bit uncertain if I can do a good job. Has anyone done this before?
Should I just shovel the $300, considering a used refurb goes for about $400 (the headphone jack o mine is also busted, but I really only use it with a dedicated soundcard). Or maybe look at a more recent
model?

That’s a considerable down payment on a new one… Just saying…

I know right?
Considering the glass costs only $50-$90.

Anyone here have done this before?

i think i replaced the glass on my old iphone 5 once or twice and it was a stupid easy, <15 minutes type of thing. i imagine that doing the same on an ipad is much harder…

so i realized that this wasn’t actually helpful in any way. went to ifixit and both procedures were listed as “moderate” difficulty. if they’re actually the same i’d say you can probably go for it (i don’t DIY any hardware stuff really and i was fine), but do research on screens, all third party screens are extremely hit or miss and i think i remember thinking my second screen was notably worse than the proprietary one

The thing is, lcd screen is not damaged, i think I need to just swap the actual glass digitizer (touch screen).IIf I understand right it consists of 2 different parts but I am not sure.
The iFixit bundle costs $199 but I have seen the digitizer glass part only for $50

iOS folks - AUM, Cubasis, and Auria Pro are are currently on sale.

Anyone feeling the love for Cubasis 3?

I’ve never gelled with either Auria or Cubasis, I much prefer AUM even though it’s not a classic DAW…

Yeah, AUM for me. I don’t have Cubasis but do have Auria Pro and although it’s certainly impressive I end up making loops in Beatmaker 3, Patterning 2 and others and then looping and effecting them in AUM. It genuinely changed the way I think about making music, certainly in terms of structure

AUM is great. So is Ape Matrix which i havent seen mentioned much.

I have Auria Pro but dont use it anymore. I switched to Beatmaker 3 because of its sample slicing.

Can audio be routed between two ipads through aum over lightning or usb-c?

Yeah, I get you with regards to changing how you think about structure. To me, I’m just able to use it in a far more ephemeral way.

I like that it’s a bit of a blank canvas, but the pallete is very limited. For this, it reminds me of my tape machines when I was in my teens. I needed to make those four tracks do what I needed them to do, and I got results I was happy with.
