Thanks @eblomquist, I hadn’t seen the Motu M2 before. It looks great, I like that I’d be able to connect the iPad Pro with just the USB-C cable. I’ll have to try weigh up the differences between that and the U24.

That’s interesting @petesasqwax, not sure I’d need that now, but good to know. At this level do you think there is any noticeable difference between the preamps in the M2 and U24?

If anyone thinks of anything else obvious that I need to consider with this Moog to iPad Pro idea let me know! :slightly_smiling_face:

Conceivably probably not a load of audible difference but I’ve had MOTU interfaces in the past and they’re truly superb. I opted for the Zoom because it can be powered via an USB power supply so it could be more portable if I needed it to be, but as that’s perhaps not a consideration for your setup I might be leaning towards the M2.

Yes! I couldn’t agree more - it’s truly fantastic!

Oh great, I feel almost convinced!

I think, if I’m reading correctly that is, the Motu M2 would be powered by the iPad Pro through the USB-C port. As I’ve got the Magic Keyboard for iPad, which adds a USB-C port for power, I could charge the iPad through this port. while the iPad powers the M2.

Although it doesn’t look as portable as the U24 and I doubt I’d go anywhere further than my garden anyway, I could use a battery pack to charge the iPad Pro through the keyboard for some extra juice :beverage_box:

anyone got recs for a very small, stereo i/o, ios friendly, bus-powered (lightning or cck) interface? i have an irig pro duo but it eats thru batteries so fast. i often use it with a powered usb hub and portable power bank but i’m trying to keep the gear minimal.

I’ve not used one, but those Roland GO: Mixer things might tick the required boxes?

Oh cool- the mixing functionality is nice - thanks.

I think that’s right, but I don’t have a USB-C iPad so I have to use the CCK with lightning and USB ports.

Any particularly good USB-C hubs (almost autocorrected to hugs) to recommend? I have an 11" Pro en route, though still a couple weeks away. Big upgrade from my Mini 2.

I’m a USB-A hugs only kind of guy, alas

I often read of the Satechi ones getting good reviews. Some good mentions in this Verge article: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2019/8/2/20750137/apple-ipad-pro-usb-c-hubs-hyperdrive-belkin-satechi-kanex

Edit: Listen to @dangriffiths below and not me. Also the HyperDrive hub gets good reviews too.

Although maybe not as practical, and I’m not sure I’d choose it, I quite like how the ones that wrap around the corner look.

Realistically though, I’m not sure I’d want one that attaches flush with the iPad. I’d probably go with something like the Uni hub that’s popular on amazon, it has rubber bumpers and looks good for the price.

Do bear in mind however, I’ve used none of them

The HyperDrive killed an iPad Pro of mine so definitely avoid that.

Much appreciated. Yeah, I’d seen this list but it was a good reminder.

I’ve seriously considered buying an ipad just for samplr; this freeware for macbooks with a touchbar is heaven!

I pretty much got a new-ish iPad (re-furbed 5th gen) just for music apps and Samplr is probably my favorite one

Samplr is absolutely fantastic and wouldn’t take a particularly fancy iPad to run (certainly bit pre-update as I have used it extensively in the past on an iPad 4th gen I picked up for £10)

I’m still running Samplr on an iPad Air first generation!

Is it possible to route audio through samplr and out for recording?
