That’s a good question. I’ve never actually tried, but I should/will.

Edit: actually, @kin.sventa might already do this, I think.

resusitated my old iphone 5c, want to find my old BitWiz files and do some recording using that again, had some great bytebeat flashcore kind of stuff saved

Edit: rediscovered these nice enigmatic livecoding-ish music apps by Joshua Parmenter. Plus some kind of very basic Swedish bagpipe instrument which will be perfect for dungeon synth stuff

Yes this is totally doable. You just need samplr, aum and an audio interface for your iOS device. I use an iconnect audio 4+ as both main audio interface and for my iPad. I remember for some reason it would only work if I loaded samplr on channel 1 of aum. Then samplr will record from input 1 on your audio interface. Then you can assign aum to route audio out however you want.

I knew you used that setup! I’ve seen you utilising it live in videos, haven’t I?

Strictly input one? Can it be routed from arbitrary input?

for whatever reason it was only on input 1. last time i tried it it was prior to the auv3 3 update to samplr so it should work with any input now.

yea here is a video where i routed my volca modular though samplr and borderlands then in to my octatrack.

Man, this is so good. Do you have a new release on the horizon at all? I need more!

So, it seems like the camera adapter won’t pass data through the lightning port - is that right? I have the usb going to a powered hub with MIDI controllers. But the iPad won’t appear on my MacBook. Never had a problem when the lightning to usb goes direct from iPad to MacBook. Any confirmation/wisdom etc appreciated.

aw thank you for the kind words. yes i have an album i’ve been working of for years now. wish i could say i had a specific date but honestly everything is a mess haha trying not to get discouraged and focus. its hard though

99% sure that’s right. No longer have the appropriate device to confirm, but I’m pretty confident I ran into that as well.

When I switched to iPad for music production earlier this year, I went through quite a handful of USB-C hubs and the only one that was stable was the Kingston Nucleum. Every other one I tried couldn’t consistently keep the iPad tied to the correct audio i/o device. Was not uncommon in the middle of a session to have all the inputs & outputs in AUM disappear and revert back to microphone, for example. Highly recommend the Nucleum. Good luck.

Thanks for that. I’ll give it a go.

Totally understood, man. Just know that I (and plenty more people) will always be very interested to hear it whenever you’re ready.

@eblomquist to redirect the iOS MPE discussion here: Animoog is far and away my favourite. I’ve also used it with Volt and Quanta but only to try it. I used it with Animoog before I realised what it was called, it just this mind-blowing feature that Animoog could do!

Well I definitely love Animoog… That’s a great reason to investigate!!!

Animoog, Model 15, Thumbjam, and GeoShred are my favorite MPE apps.

Shoom, Mononoke and Quanta are my MPE go-tos! I did my drone day this year with just Shoom and it’s amazing. Highly recommend

I think I like shoom more than xynthesizr. However they’re both amazing apps.

I’ve been finally digging into AUM on my phone as an outlet while I’m still resolving location/ergonomics of a less cluttered home setup. I’m curious what people’s feelings were on good auv3 synths to host on a phone (8 plus). I really like Zeeon, but the UI doesn’t seem to scale very well as an AU and it’s sadly more frustrating than fun to program.

I don’t know if I’m looking for anything too wild/esoteric(although I’m not opposed!). Mostly just something that sounds really good, is pretty quick to dial in sounds and hopefully has decent midi implementation if needed in the future.

This thread is great, BTW(like most here). I’m slowly working my way back through it to find some hidden gems and tricks!

What kind of synth?

A virtual analogue that has a really nice phone UI as AUv3 is DRC. (I like the sound too.)

Brambos has lots of options that are still fun to use at phone scale.
