Did you grab Model D? Not necessarily what you’re after but still free at the moment and sounds incredible. With my phone I pair up with the Korg Bluetooth keyboard and tend to go with simple tweaks to presets so I don’t have to worry too much about the size. That said, the 8 plus is a good sized screen so I’d imagine most things would work out quite well. I have a 6s and use the Korg Odyssey app a lot. The Synthmaster ones are good too. I agree re: DRC - the way each function gets a screen is really handy for small screen usage.

There’s a new Eventide tremolo app out at an intro price of £/$5 and it’s excellent.

Fabfilter apps are 25% off right now. I just got the bundle of all 7 apps for £85…

I was leaning VA, but I’m pretty open. In ableton I tend to use Aalto as my go to, even for pretty simple VA tasks. I have Ripplemaker, but haven’t put too much time into it. I got it hoping it would really scratch my LPG itch on iOS…but like the 0-coast on which it’s inspired, I like it, but really don’t feel like it gives me what I’m looking for in that sound/interaction. I was thinking about DRC, it’s been on the back of my mind for a while and I just haven’t taken the plunge, maybe now’s the time!

I do have model D and 15. I just gave model D a shot in AUM on my phone and it’s a bit micro, but works well!

I also have to admit that it’s your recent posts that motivated me to finally dig into AUM! I recently pulled out some older projects in BM3 on my 9.7” iPad Pro and they completely lock up now, when they worked fine a few years ago…

It’s really disappointing about BM3 but not being able to trust it consistently means that it’s no longer really worth having on my iPad, sadly. Finding a new way of working was borne of necessity, but I’m very happy about it now I’ve found it and it lacks nothing on my old BM3 workflow but adds lots more. It’s great to hear that re: AUM! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hard to beat the sound of Model 15, but it’s a bitch to program.

Ripplemaker pairs really well with Grind. I always use them together.

Has anyone mapped the controls of Ripplemaker to an external controller? I have a Launchpad XL that could potentially be a good friend to it but I’ve never seen anyone do it. I’ve seen some great videos of people using one with iVCS3 though, which I need to make time to try out.

Aum makes midi mapping very easy. First you choose a controller, then you navigate to the plugin you want to map under “MIDI Control” and choose your parameter and either specify a channel and CC number or use the learn button.

Do you mean controlling the patch chords via the Launchpad, as one would patch in the iVCS3? I don’t think it’s possible, well, as far as i know.

Regarding normal patching/mapping, my favorite use of Ripplemaker is to connect it to Bram Bos’ Rozeta XY pads. It’s really fun to map both axis to change the behavior of a self-generating patch, such as the decay parameter in the slope cycling function or push in the oscillator. It becomes a really expressive instrument.

Anyone use your device as an oscilloscope? Any tips? I just got this and am learning I’m going to need an interface as well. http://onyx3.com/Oscilloscope/

I did a lot of midi mapping in AUM yesterday and I wish there was a simpler global midi learn mode to touch a knob on the screen and then turn a knob on the controller, but the menu was reasonably fine. A pain if one’s swapping in and out audio units mid-set and want midi control over them.

I’m looking for a powerful, polyphonic, multi-timbral synth, where I can program my own presets, and store a setup of midi channels with sounds. Effects included would be a nice bonus.

It’s intended use is the most compact noise making add on to the modular. I’ve been using the sound ending from caustic, but I’m looking for something with a little more depth in the synth engine…

If you need audio rate, I think any app will work…

Yeah, I’d recommend not doing this, but having everything all set up and ready to go for your entire set might exceed the capability of your ipad?

I don’t follow. I should have specified my use-case. I want to hook this up to my eurorack so I can see pretty sine waves while I work.

yeah, I’m on a 3 year old Pro, so my casual set up last night with 2 channels and two aux sends with 2 to 4 FX on each channel was hitting 50% at times. If I was prepping a real live set I’d have it tuned precisely and maybe I’d be using an external reverb pedal to cover the time it takes to load a full AUM set so that I could have my set broken down into an AUM file per movement/song/whatever

I’m sure when I upgrade to a 2021 iPad Pro, it’ll be a lot easier to just have everything going at once.

I do love how smooth AUM is at bypassing fx and swapping out files in the file loopers, it never clicks.

Maybe I’m missing something but I wish there was a gesture to re-order the FX, having to eject and recreate them is a pain, especially if I want to add something in the middle of the chain.

You can reorder effects and MIDI nodes by dragging it right and keep holding while moving your finger up or down. The order of the effect nodes determine their position in the signal chain, and can thus affect the sound. The order of the MIDI nodes have only visual meaning. Reordering is not possible while the pre-post option is open.

HA, it’s so obvious and it was the one direction I hadn’t tried! Thanks!

I should read this whole manual now that I have a midi controller for the iPad and am going to get deeper into using AUM for performance/improvisation.
