It’s almost like an ECM jazz drummer. If I could only get it to swing…

So after about 6 months or so of dabbling with using the iPad for the main hub for my setup, I’ve settled into using AUM with a Focusrite usb interface as my mixer and midi hub. I’m however really wanting the ability to sync an external midi clock to AUM and everything I’ve seen has mentioned this as one of the major shortcomings. I can get external things to sync to AUM but I need the ability to go the other way. I’m looking into Apesoft, as this has this ability, but as I’m looking at it, I’m realizing there doesn’t seem to be the ability to route individual channels from a usb interface and use it like a mixer? Is that the case? What’s a good solution here for getting a midi clock sync in while using AUM?

In apeMatrix each “node” in the matrix has a circle around it corresponding to volume, and the diameter of the circle increases or decreases along with volume as you drag up or down.

Check out app MIDI Link Synch

Can confirm and agree - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/midi-link-sync/id1071048493

It’ll take midi clock sync from wherever (I usually will send clock from GarageBand or Cubasis since neither support Link) and then it’ll set Link session tempo which AUM will pick up. Very handy tool

I’ll confirm MIDI Link Sync is amazing.
I first started using it because I was trying to sync the ipad to my VERY wobbly clock coming from a weird rhythmic setup in the Pittsburgh Modular Generator X module. I sent an inverted square wave to a Bastl MIDI<>Clock module, MIDI out to Presonus interface and ran MIDI Link Sync to generate Link within ios. Also Link becomes wireless! The other great thing about MLS is it’s bi-directional! MIDI to Link or Link to MIDI. It also has a timing slider where you can shift up to +/- 100 ms!!

I gave this app a try, it works great!!! Thanks for the suggestion!

In AUM, is there a way to make the visual appearance of the tracks thinner or smaller? I hate the fact that i have to scroll to see everything if you go beyond four or 5 tracks. I love to have a way to see everything all at once, even if its smaller. Or maybe can you hide tracks? Or even better, set up a midi function to auto scroll to the track you need? I have not found any of this in the manual but maybe I’m missing something.

I don’t know about resizing channels, but there is a bookmark function that might be of some use to you.

Click on the channel name at the bottom of the screen and tap the bookmark symbol to the right of the track name in the window that opens. It should go green. Then you can use the bookmark list on the bottom right of the screen to zap the screen to that channel. You can set up several bookmarks this way.

Hope that helps and that I have described it clearly!

Yeah I saw that, what would be helpful in this case is if you could assign midi functionality to that. I’m essentially looking to just be able to touch the iPad the least amount possible and having to avoid scrolling on the screen while in the middle of playing something. I have my midi controller assigned to various volume levels and it would be nice to having it just auto-snap to the corresponding AUM channel that I’m adjusting on the midi controller. I’m still getting over the hump of a setup like this as opposed to an analog mixer going into an interface.

Don’t know if I can post it here…

Last night I used the Oval Synth app for iOS with my fresh Norns (which arrived last week)image . I found this Handpan app a few months ago and kept in mind to use it with Norns. really very happy and fell in love with this application which goes very well with Norns. A very beautiful and great source of inspiration and sounds … Ton of hours of playing and sampling

Hello everyone! I feel like I’m pretty much all set in terms of apps and plugins on ipad, but recently the SKIIID kinda intrigued me with it’s lo-fi and alive-ish textures. I wonder if someone has it and can share their impressions. I know its just 6 bucks, but so are many other things in the world)

I jumped on this when it appeared on desktop and was even more excited by its arrival on iOS. It’s stunning and beautiful - almost too much so, as I’ve yet to do anything with it other than simply play around on its own. At some point I’m hopefully of being able to integrate it into a broader workflow but the closest I have got to so far is simply layering some field recordings behind it and playing around with slow droning textures.

Same experience here, but I’ve only been using it on iOS. Field recordings are a great idea; I hadn’t thought of that.

There’s also some pretty weird UI decisions – the ASCII for envelope mode? :upside_down_face:

Ha! Yes, I definitely found it appealing yet not exactly intuitive at first and it took me some exploration before I began to understand it (the DivKid video is very handy for that)

Just purchased the ES-9. Can’t wait to get started. Only, I can’t find an ES-9 module in Audulus. How is that? Is the one in your patch something you build yourself using DACs and stuff?

Yes, I built that myself – or more accurately tweaked an ES-8 patch I found on the Audulus forums. But tbh I haven’t used that since MiRack went AUv3 and multichannel. Now I use something like this:

Thanks! I see. Yes, AUv3 would of course simplify things. At the same time, I can see myself constructing complex sequencers or modulations in Audulus not possible in MiRack. I like the possibility to more or less code whole song structures.
I might have to get MiRack as well. I’m using an old iPad Air 2, so I’m not sure if it would cope with bigger patches. That’s the main reason I haven’t got it already.

Hi everyone. I think I know the answer to this question: for music making purposes, do either the iPad Air or iPad Pro offer an advantage over the regular iPad? I would guess the answer is “no”, but figured I’d ask.

If you are hammering it with effects CPU might be an issue that the faster pro sorts but otherwise not really.
