From what I’m reading the new Air is arguably better than the pro…

Since these threads are long lived and timing of improvements to each model do not happen simultaneously, it’s best to check the CPU specs of the specific model/release version you are interested in. It’s definitely possible to hit a ceiling if you’ve got a few tracks going, each with multiple effects. Where that ceiling hits depends on which CPU you have.

I’d say the USB-C on the Pro and Air adds a point in their corner. It’s handy to plug in audio-interfaces/usb-midi-devices without a lightning/usb conversion dingus. And power them too!

Do regular dongles work on that USB-C jack? As in, the same one you’d use for a laptop.

Like a USB stick? Yeah that’ll plug right in and will show up in the Files app. I’ve not yet met a dongle, dingus or doohickey that didn’t plug right on in.

Cool. My existing iOS midi interface will need a dongle

I tend to use a USB-C hub with mine, then from there out to a midi interface, audio interface, midi-CV, keyboard etc. Lack of 3.5mm audio out is a tremendous nuisance. Some USB hubs provide one for you.

My current plan is to get a new Air plus a usb-c hub and a MOTU M4

I got the newer keyboard case for my pro and as well as being sturdy/ good angle it has the bonus of an additional USB-C too.

I’m connecting my new ES-9 to iPad via a lightning-to-USB-C cable, and ES-9 won’t recognize the iPad as a host. Do I need some other adapter?

I believe you need the Camera Connection Kit for all lightning iPads and iPhones. The iPad Pros work with direct usb-c connection just like, well, computers ought to, hubs and all.

Thanks. Just need to get me one of those then.

A discussion with a friend recently caused me to investigate Wotja and although it’s very early days I’m already having an awful lot of fun with it. I don’t like subscription options so, as the pro version was on sale (and I think it still is) I picked it up.

Running it within AUM and alongside non-generative apps makes for very interesting results. I’m using it alongside Patterning 2 and the various probability options that affords compliments Wotja well. Although the internal libraries are really quite impressive, I’m using it to trigger AUv3 plugins and the results are very pleasing indeed!

I know it was mentioned much earlier in the thread but haven’t seen it talked about elsewhere. Is anyone else using it?

The one with power throughput is recommended, so you can charge while you use USB.

You can also connect a (decent) hub to the camera connection kit, and connect to the audio interface from there. That’s handy if you want to add a midi controller to the mix.
I’ve got the ipad - cck-hub-ES-8, FH-2 and a faderfox to control fh-2 and AUM.
Works a treat.

I went through a Wotja phase during the summer for a bit. I only played a little bit with outputting midi to other plugins via AUM, I was messing about with the internal engines a lot; for ambient stuff it’s just very pleasing. There’s quite a lot of internal parameters! I’d be curious to hear what people do with it for non-ambient stuff.

At the moment I’ve only allowed it to be a participant in a larger ensemble case, so, for example, I made it control percussive noises that I loaded into Koala which were effectively generative and random, but I combined them with Patterning 2 to create probability-infused drum sequences which I utilised alongside Bleass Sidekick to introduce tuned kick drum swells. It’s quite minimal but lovely and immense fun!

I’m having insane crashing issues with AUM and I’m testing Audiobus 3 with similar problems.
I’ve got some emails in to AUM, but I’d really appreciate some help if any experts would be willing to
speak to me and work thru some possible fixes sometime.

I’d certainly help in any way I could but I’ve never experienced any crashing in AUM. On my older devices the CPU load meter is noticeably stretched when I throw heavy synths and plugins at it so I always keep an eye on that but that’s the extent of my issues with it. My iOS devices are almost permanently in flight mode unless I’m downloading updates or uploading files, but I’ve no idea if that does anything to help

That’s wonderful, I’ll message you tomorrow.
Thank You!
