It’s great to see an iOS thread here! Over the last few years it’s become my favorite music-making medium, so much so I sold off a healthy chunk of modular eurorack gear last year because of the overlap with some of my iPad apps. Pretty incredible what a tablet is capable of these days.
Most of my process is based around using the iPad as a brain for midi sequencing to drive Kontakt instruments on my laptop. I then re-sample the material and warp, loop, and generally mangle the output on my iPad. I usually take that effected material and then arrange it in a proper laptop DAW: usually Logic. The iConnectivity Connect Audio 2 is essential for me because it allows connection of 2 host devices: laptop and iPad simultaneously, with ability to pass audio and MIDI between both connected devices.
It’s been a game changer having touch- and gesture-driven capabilities in apps like Samplr and Borderlands, and some of the granular possibilities in Imaginando FRMS, Audio Damage Quanta and the like are really impressive. I’m also blown away by the realism of saturation and character in tape delays and tape recorders like Gauss, K7D, Toneboosters ReelBus etc.
Anyway, looking forward to browsing this thread in depth for new ideas. Here’s a sample of the process that I recorded tonight during a live stream. There’s a lot happening but the gist of it is 2 Kontakt instruments (1 piano, 1 strings) being fed into iOS for sampling and effects.
