Your iOS toolkit

There are quite a few in app purchases for sure. I don’t see any explanation of what’s in each iap either (apart from the names)…at this point I’m only using a computer for kontakt libraries so I’m hoping this is a sign of things to come in iOS

Ha! Maybe it’s “special intro pricing”

The additional issue with this sort of thing is the lack of storage on an iPad. I’m struggling to think of a situation where I would think that an app that requires 25GBs of space is a must-have (even before we get into the price model)

Ableton Suite orchestral instruments plus Kontakt are usually enough for me in this direction…

I can’t imagine a scenario where I would need this on an iPad…

I wonder if logic might bring folks who use the Mac version for film scoring to the iPad. It’s not my use case at all and not for me, but having solid orchestral libraries seems like a must have for that kind of use case.

I can see that use case, but that isn’t my use case :sunglasses:

Logic Pro available for anyone yet? I was hoping it’d go live at midnight, but it doesn’t seem to have.

What solution are people using for earphones/headphones on the go for devices with no headphone jack?

I would guess anything bluetooth creates way to much latency for music production. Do the USB-C to 3.5mm adapters cause any latency with wired earphones/headphones or do these work fast enough to be useable in a music production context?

Pretty sure most “simple” USBc adapter are analog. The USB spec supports analog “audio accessary” mode on the D pins.

Oh good to know! For some reason I had in mind that the dongles would need a DAC built into them.

Found an article that has more info:

Bluetooth is 100% a no-go.

I have the ESR adapter but it works only if you plug first the headphones and then into the iPad which is weird. I’ve been recommended the Satechi one. Both have PD charging.

Modalics’ Beat Scholar just came out for iPad. Gushing first look at Logic from CDM here, too. Merry Christmas!

The Apple USBc audio adapter is inexpensive and produces excellent sound quality. Audio out only though.

It’s funny because recently I have been using Bluetooth with a HiFi amplifier in the living room and for composing or mixing I don’t mind the latency, and for playing the modular through it I found that it is less than ideal but (it is weird I know), I actually found interesting to have a higher latency (I tried to put a 1 sec delay on the master, as I go trough a DAW before going to the amplifier anyway).
It is strange, it makes me more conscious / cautious of knobs movements, because I won’t hear the result right away and correct, and in a way it sets me in a different kind of hearing/playing loop, one in which I am actually paying more attention to the result.

I use a couple different inexpensive adapters/expanders with USBC power pass thu, USBC, 2x USBA, 3.5 headphones, HDMI and/or card reader.
It works fine altho the one issue with the fancier one is it doesn’t pass thru 100% power, so it doesn’t fully charge the ipad.
Not sure if it’s the charger or adapter in that case, but no latency in either one.

Checked the link on CDM and got it downloaded. So far I’m absolutely blown away, it’s fitting so many gaps for my recording workflows. Specifically around looping and comping takes.

new, free, handy, multi:)

ChowMultiTool is a “Swiss Army Knife” plugin containing several tools that might be useful to have in your DAW. The tools include:

  • EQ with linear phase and “drawable” capabilities
  • Waveshaper with minimal aliasing and lots of customisability
  • Band-Splitter with multiple outputs and perfect reconstruction
  • SVF with keytracking and parameter modulation (CLAP only)

Rad, will check it out. I love everything this developer has released so far. Chow Tape saved me a fortune after lusting over a Generation Loss Mk II.

Thanks for this! One question: did you understand how the BandSplitter works in iOS? Couldn’t figure out how to send the bands to separate channels in AUM.

@ttasselm just shared a follow-up to his original iPad/Ableton Live workflow.

Watch it here.

Thanks Andrew!
